Busy Two Weeks

Hi GVST Families,

Our team has a busy two weeks coming up. We’ve attached an updated calendar to help keep things organized.

Wednesday, May 11th, 4pm to 9pm, Habit Burger Dine Out

Help support the team by dining out at Habit Burger (Brookhurst @ Warner) from 4pm to 9pm. Please show this flier to help ensure our team receives credit.

Thursday, May 12th, Picture Day

There is no practice on picture day. Individual pictures will begin at 1:30, with group pictures at 3:30 pm. Individual photos will continue after the group picture is taken.

Beginning Monday, there will be two boxes of file folders just inside the pool gate. These boxes contain a folder for each family and inside your folder will be an order form for pictures. Get your form from your folder before picture day so you can decide what you want ahead of time. You need exact change or a check to purchase pictures on Thursday.

For Picture Day, swimmers must wear a team suit or an all-black swimsuit. We will have a table set up to distribute team t-shirts right before the group pictures are taken and all swimmers will wear their shirt in the photo. Have your swimmer’s hair ready to go. No swim caps needed on Thursday!

Pro Tip: Use a Sharpie to write your child’s name in the shirt immediately.

Friday, May 20th, Kickoff Dinner

There is no practice on Friday May 20th. Instead, come have dinner with GVST swimmers, families and coaches in the greenbelt outside the GV Adult Clubhouse (here). This event is open to your whole family.

The team is providing free burgers and has asked that families donate drinks, side dishes, chips and desserts. It is essential that every family that plans to attend RSVP so we know how many burgers to buy. Go here and click the green RSVP button on the right side of the page to let us know you’re coming. And here is the flier with instructions regarding what your family has been asked to donate.

Saturday, May 21st, Dolphin Classic

Please make sure your swimmer is signed into the meet by Wednesday (5/18). Here are instructions for signing in your swimmers.

Our first meet of the year is an intersquad meet, with GVST split into a Blue Team and a Green Team. This is a swim meet to get everyone on the pool deck used to their jobs, swimmers ready for a meet and everyone ready for the upcoming meets against other teams. It's also a way to get your swimmers their first swim times of the season, for placement in future events and time improvement awards.

Swimmer check-in begins at 7:30am. Lane-lineup volunteers should check in by 7:15am, and volunteers for most other roles should check in by 7:30. (Set-up should arrive by 6:00, and food booth by 6:45.) For check-in, look for the EZ-ups with GVST signs on the greenbelt, right outside of the pool.

We rely on volunteers to run our team and our meets. Please make sure you are aware of your volunteer jobs, (instructions are here for finding your jobs online), and arrive on time. If you have hired a teenager to work, email the teen volunteer’s name to the meet managers at [email protected], have $60 cash in an envelope with his or her name, and give the envelope to one of the meet managers. Please do not Venmo the teen worker before he or she works the shift. We want to make sure shifts are covered prior to teen workers being paid.If you do not show up or get your job covered by a teen, there will be a $100 fine.

For those of you for whom this will be your first swim meet, here is one mother’s advice regarding getting your family ready for a swim meet. This note has helped many families over the years in preparing for their first swim meet.

See you at the pool, Scott
